The awaited meeting with the World Championship in Zuera ended with a Kosmic Kart Racing Department brilliantly standing out and racing high level. The World race has been influenced by two important factors, both the variable weather conditions and the format of the event.
The changeable weather forced drivers to race the qualifying heats under the rain and did not allowed drivers to exploit the track at their best, Bailly obtained the 6th lap time with 1:17.066.
Also in the first rounds which took place on Saturday morning, the circuit was not in optimal conditions, so drivers used slick tyres on damp asphalt.
Bailly ended the three rounds with two second positions and a third one, gaining the third line in the pre-final grid. Mitchell, who was placed third at the KF2 World Cup in 2009, recovered with great tenacity in every round, easily managing to enter the Final.
The other aspect which influenced the results of this important race was the format adopted, without the possibility for the drivers to fight one against another, they had to race in three rounds, without having any recovery race at their disposal, which could have allowed them to remedy any unlucky or unexpected events during such an important race.
Once again, the Mercury-Vortex worked in a perfect way in the pre-final and the work carried out by the team allowed Bailly to have great performances obtaining the fourth place with a 1:02.174 best lap, gained without taking advantage from the wake. Mitchell was forced to drop out at the third lap after being involved into a crash.
In the Final Bailly fought hard to gain the podium with Kanamaru, Klinkby, Lock, Maisano and De Brabander. Only at the end of the race, our official driver lost ground due to a light contact, ending the final at the ninth position.
For Mitchell the whole race was a recovery, the Australian driver sprang forward from the backlines and did an excellent race, proving that our technical potential is performant and very high quality on dry asphalt with grip.
Olivier Marechal – Kosmic Kart Racing Department Team Manager
“Some aspects of the event did not allow our driver to express themselves at their best. As always, the technical material, chassis ad engines, cut a fine figure and the bad weather on Friday and Saturday morning did not help us. Of course, if the circuit was dry and with grip, we would have shown all our potential.”
